Daryl Monroe (38), a foreign player in Anyang Jeonggwanjang in professional basketball, leaves the team after failing to overcome his injury.
"Today is my last day with Honorary Captain Monroe. I am truly grateful to Monroe for sharing good memories as a leading player of the team for three seasons," Chung said on his official social media on Wednesday.
Monroe will leave the team after a game against Seoul Samsung at 7 p.m. on the same day.
Monroe, who graduated from George Mason University in the U.S., joined Goyang Orion (now Sono) in 2018 after going through the Netherlands and France.
Monroe played an average of 34 minutes and 55 seconds in 47 games for Orion in the 2018-19 season, leaving impressive records such as 19.38 points, 11.81 rebounds and 5.40 assists and 0.34 blocks.
After that, he left for the Israeli league, but after joining Anyang KGC (currently the general manager) in 2021, he played in the KBL stage for three consecutive seasons.
Monroe was loved by fans for her unique smart play and veteran leadership at the Jeonggwanjang.
During this period, he only backed up Omari Spellman, but he did not show his pride and worked silently on his role.
He was good at dabbing Spellman, who had some emotional ups and downs, and when Spellman was unable to play due to injury, he played his part on the court and showed his presence.
In the 2022-23 season, he contributed to the team's unified victory by scoring 11 points in 24 minutes and 16 seconds on average in 22 games, 7 rebounds and 0.27 steals.
Monroe, who showed off her rusty skills even at a young age, complained of hamstring pain late last year and was out of power.
Monroe returned to the East Asian Super League (EASL) game on the 10th, and on the 14th, he played as a referee in the All-Star game, giving fans a smile.
However, the injury recurred during the team's training the day after the All-Star Game, and he began rehabilitation without promise again.
Considering Monroe's contribution to the team, Chung Kwan-kwan's team had planned to wait for rehabilitation as much as possible, but eventually chose to replace it as it got longer than expected.
The club thanked Munro for his hard work, saying, "I will not forget the passion he showed in Anyang."
